Historical Archive of Burgos
Close to the old gates of the city, a historical building from the 16th century is restored and extended to serve the Provincial Archive and University of Burgos in their new demands. In the south wings of the historical complex, public spaces, offices, and classrooms provide a new infrastructure for the educational institution. On the other hand, in the north areas, the renewed spaces are intended for the Archive requirements, completed with a new volume that satisfies the technical services and at the same time configures a background for the public space in the park.
The new piece proposed as extension of the archive is linked with the old Hospital through a two-level plinth with a slightly curved façade towards the park. The upper floors are set back, lightening the general volumetry by using light vertical elements built in limestone.
Public life is present in the general strategy of the project. Cultural and Educational events can be celebrated in outdoor spaces, creating synergies in the surroundings and offering the neighbourhood a civic building.
