The Space and Aeronautical Engineering School, University of Vigo in Orense is located on a complexly shaped plot within the University of Vigo’s Campus in Orense. Chosen to complete the urban layout of this educational area, the site is part of a civic expansion in the northern part of the city. Urban regulations set intricate boundaries for accommodating classrooms, laboratories, offices, and technical services vital to research and learning in space and aeronautical engineering.

To address these site challenges, the design employs a right-angled triangular form, defining the building as a prism anchored into the terrain. This shape allows for efficient spatial organization and connects the structure closely to its surrounding environment. By integrating into the landscape, the Space and Aeronautical Engineering Orense building maintains harmony with the campus, while its geometry offers functional and aesthetic advantages.

A unique feature of the Space and Aeronautical Engineering Orense design is the rhythmically arranged whitish brise soleils on the building’s exterior. These architectural elements provide controlled lighting for classrooms and laboratories, filtering sunlight while adding a modern and dynamic look. The brise soleils ensure ample natural light without glare, creating an ideal learning and research environment by optimizing light conditions that are essential for academic spaces.

Space and Aeronautical Engineering School, University of Vigo in Orense

A plot with a complex geometry inside the Campus of University of Vigo in Orense is the chosen one to complete the urban scheme in this educational and civic area in the north of the city. The urban regulations define a complicated boundary where the classrooms, laboratories, offices, and technical services for the institution must be contained.

A precise right-angled triangle can solve the whole building defining a prism anchored to the territory and in constant relation with its direct environment. Due to the light conditions of the classrooms and laboratories, the project is characterized with rhythmed whitish brise soleils.

The main public space inside the school is the foyer, turned into a vertical common element that guides the students towards the classroom in a simple way. This lobby has a direct relationship with the public green areas of the Campus through the central access.
